Journey

|
I started out as a piece of wood from a tree very like this one, an umbrella thorn acacia. If the tree looks familiar to you, it's because umbrella thorn acacias are very like some of the trees that grow in the Arizona-Sonora Desert. My people depend on trees like this for building material, shade, and firewood and for making walking sticks, stools, and dolls like me. The leather in my apron came from my owners apron. Since cowrie shells around don't occur naturally in the Savannah, my people traded for the cowrie shells to decorate the edges. |
